How to Care for Your Aari Work Blouse
A hand-embroidered blouse can last decades if it is treated gently. These are the care instructions we give every customer.
Cleaning
- Dry clean only. Water dulls zari and loosens glued stones. Tell the dry cleaner the blouse has hand embroidery so they use a gentle cycle.
- For a small mark, dab with a barely damp cloth from the inside of the fabric. Never rub the embroidery.
- Air the blouse for a few hours after wearing before you put it away.
Storing
- Fold with the embroidery facing inwards, and place a soft cotton cloth or butter paper between the folds so beads do not press into the fabric.
- Store in a cotton bag, not plastic. Plastic traps moisture and tarnishes zari.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight and from silica or naphthalene balls touching the embroidery.
Wearing
- Apply perfume and deodorant before you put the blouse on, never on it.
- Be careful with hooks of jewellery and safety pins near the beadwork.
- If a bead comes loose, keep it and send us a photo. Small repairs are quick.
Travelling
Roll the blouse in tissue and place it on top of the suitcase contents, not under heavy items. Unpack and hang it as soon as you arrive.
